The owner of this post-war home was undertaking a renovation during a busy period of her life. She needed her home to be liveable but didn’t have much time on her hands, so she asked us to step in to take charge of the design process.

First, we got to know her and her vision. Then we engaged a building designer and led her through the design process to ensure the project unfolded quickly, without sacrificing attention to detail. Finally, we staged the renovation to allow her to move in sooner.

With construction now complete, the existing home’s interior has been remodelled to house a new main bathroom and the 3 bedrooms (including a master suite with an ensuite and walk-in robe). At the rear, a new pavilion provides an open-plan space for the new kitchen, living and laundry. The addition of an outdoor deck, double garage and swimming pool were also part of the finished renovation, and the entry was relocated to the side of the house.

Due to the tight timeframe, an important consideration for this project was keeping the extension within the the Queensland Development Code for lots over 450m2. This alleviated the need to go through a Development Approval process that would have added to the length of the project.

“I came to DLR with a very short lead-time to commence the build. They accommodated and met all of my timeframes and worked flexibly so that the project could be done in a couple of key stages, which is what I needed to suit my particular circumstances. Dayne regularly sought out feedback to ensure that he was delivering what I wanted. He would not accept work from his tradesmen or sub-contractors that was not to a very high standard. As the build went on, he identified changes that would work better, so he was thoughtful and always mindful of delivering the best result for me, not what was easiest for him. For any changes or variations, Dayne made sure he took the time to flag them early and discuss them with me. Further, I have contacted Dayne a few times over the last year about the house and he has come and attended to minor issues. I would engage DLR again, without hesitation.”
