Birdwood Terrace

Auchenflower

This renovation completely transformed an old Queenslander while retaining its character features, including original verandahs, stained glass windows and VJ walls. The vision for this project was to update the home and move the living areas downstairs to create indoor-outdoor connection.

To start, we raised the house and built it in underneath at the rear. This added downstairs area now houses the living space, where large bifold doors open from the kitchen to a new lower deck in the backyard. Two bathrooms were added and a third bathroom was refurbished, and we also installed new flooring and a new entry.

Birdwood Terrace was a complicated build that required thorough planning. In addition to the challenges of renovating a Queenslander, this project also presented us with a steep sloped block that had limited access at both the front and back. We carefully managed these factors, together with a number of requested variations, to deliver a refreshed home that met the client’s expectations.

“This was a significant project on a sloped site with limited access. Dayne kept us informed along the way and maintained a high standard of workmanship. He insisted on using quality trades to maintain the integrity of the work. Five months after the build, we have not had to call upon DLR to rectify any issues, which is unusual. When we made variations to the project, the variations were all very reasonable in cost and nothing was too much of a bother. Dayne was easy to work with, which is important when engaging in such an emotional experience like building or renovating. We would have no hesitation in using DLR’s services again.”
