In a quiet and leafy Fairfield street, this pre-1946 Queenslander was ready for an update. It hadn’t been touched for years and we worked with the client to give the home the makeover it deserved.
Our client was a property investor with a vision to build a home that would suit a growing family. They asked us to manage as much of the project as possible, so we engaged and dealt directly with the building designer. Having our team’s input at the design stage has a number of advantages, including a smoother build process and more accurate cost forecasting from the initial phases of the project. We were able to make a number of cost-saving design recommendations, including an elevated pool to reduce the excavation costs associated with removing the sandstone we know is common in the area.
The build saw us completely gut the home, remove a significant amount of asbestos and then raise and move the home to a better position on the block. All living areas were moved to the downstairs level that now opens up to the pool. Other key features of the renovated home include a media room, large master suite with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, study, guest bedroom with ensuite, kitchen with butler’s pantry and wine viewing room, and open-plan living.
When the home was complete and went to market, it achieved one of the highest prices on record for non-riverfront homes in Fairfield at the time.
